About us

Combining his passion for Irish pubs and literature, Owner/Proprietor Drew Dvorkin opened The Dead Poet in September of 2000. Drew, a former high school English teacher, designed the bar to celebrate the lives and spirits of famous writers and poets. The mahogany-panelled walls are adorned with black and white portraits, musing quotations, and poetic passages pertaining to the universal quandaries of life.

The atmosphere at The Dead Poet is amiable and upbeat, and our proficient staff makes everyone feel welcome. We will proudly fill your glass with one of our Signature Cocktails (listed below), a pint of premium draft beer, or, if you prefer, you can sample our extensive Irish whiskey menu.

The Dead Poet is frequented by college students, Upper West Side locals, musicians, and professionals alike, and has become a popular location for private parties. For your enjoyment, we offer a library of classic works of literature (you can sign out books to take home), and an ever-popular jukebox (to request an album for our jukebox, email us at info@thedeadpoet.com).

The Dead Poet has a reputation for pouring one of the finest pints of Guinness in New York City-our pint is always fresh and proudly served with a Shamrock.

Please browse through our site and stop by The Dead Poet for a pint or two. We gladly welcome any comments or feedback on our website, and would also love to know about your experiences at The Dead Poet.
